With its medieval-style Altstadt, Menden offers a variety of interesting sights that are definitely worth a visit. These include, among others, St. Vincenz Church and the Art Nouveau-style Old Town Hall. Both buildings are considered landmarks of the city on the Hönne River. The city’s rampart, which is still visible today, along with its city towers and the partially preserved city wall, provide further impressive glimpses into Menden’s history.
A shopping trip through the city center is also an experience for the whole family. Surrounded by lovingly restored half-timbered houses in winding alleys, lively squares and numerous owner-operated specialty shops create a vibrant atmosphere for young and old alike. Many city festivals and traditional celebrations—such as the Menden Carnival, the Pentecost Fair, spring and fall markets, and, last but not least, “Menden Summer” and “Menden à la carte”—attract more than 500,000 visitors to our city throughout the year. Menden’s natural surroundings offer ideal conditions for numerous outdoor activities. Thanks to its location along the RuhrtalRadweg, Menden is the perfect starting point for interesting bike tours through the region.
